Welcome to Tony's Page
On September 23rd, I will again be serving as Captain of a team of runners and walkers at the Carnegie Center 5K to help raise awareness and funds for Parkinson's Disease research. I seek your support.
I first became aware of Parkinson's Disease when my now late Dad was diagnosed more than 15 years ago. At that time, my family and I knew very little about PD and I assumed, like many people, that it was a disease for older men. I assumed everyone has the same symptoms, and I thought I knew what those were. And, probably the most incorrect assumption of mine, I thought great medical minds knew what caused it and how to "cure" it.
Wow, there was a lot I didn't know and I have since become much more intimate with the impacts of PD. I became even more involved with the Parkinson's community following my diagnosis in 2009.
This degenerative condition strikes men and women at very different ages. There are similarities in symptoms, but the disease represents differently in different people and isn't diagnosed until a significant amount of damage has already occurred. And, you guessed it, no one knows what causes it and there is no cure.
I can fill space here with plenty of alarming stats to try to get you to contribute, but I won't. Just please believe me, it is real, it is omnipresent in the lives of people who have it . . . and your help is needed.
Joining our team for race day. ALL donations will be very much appreciated!!
